Seminar - Sze Yup Temple in Glebe
- Past Present and Future by Helen Fong
"Sze Yup Temple in Glebe was built in 1889, when only 12 Chinese lived in Glebe. When Chinese settlers in Sydney decided to build a temple dedicated to the Chinese folk hero and god, Kwan Ti (a warrior and patriot in the era of the Three Kingdoms 220-265 AD), they prayed for a sign showing where the temple should be built. This led them to a market garden in Francis Street (now Edward Street) in Glebe... It was placed on the State Heritage Register on 2 April, 1999. Come and hear Helen Fong, whose father, grandfather and great grandfather were trustees of the temple, reveal the secrets of the temple."
